Best Wedding Ever! The Marriage of the Lamb
Pt. 1 – The Bride and Her Dress. The bible begins & ends with a wedding
Today, we are going to look at the wedding at the end of the book.
Song: Oh, The Wedding of the Lamb. The Bride and Her Dress
Who is the lamb?
Before Jesus died on the cross, one lamb was sacrificed, once a year, for the sins of Israel.
The lamb was sacrificed for the sins of one nation, for one year.
Jesus was sacrificed for all the sins, of the whole world, forever.
Who is the bride?
“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her.” Eph. 5:25 (CSB)
“… As a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so your God will rejoice over you.” Isa. 62:5 (GW)
The believers – the Church – is the bride.
“Let us rejoice and be happy and give God glory, because the wedding of the Lamb has come. And the Lamb’s bride has made herself ready.”
Rev. 19:7 ERV
So, how did she make herself ready? The bride is bathed in two things…
The Lamb’s blood…And the Lamb’s Word
“to make her holy, cleansing her with the washing of water by the word.” Eph. 5:26
The Groom covers His bride with a white linen garment.
White linen represents righteousness- holiness-purity.
Our bride (the Church) was given her garment by the groom.
It was a free gift – GRACE!
(God’s Riches at Christ’s Expense)
Fine linen was given to the bride for her to wear. The linen was bright and clean.” Rev. 19:8
And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. Rev. 19:9
“This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe…” Rom. 3:22
Consider the following questions:
Who is the Lamb? Who is His Bride? Why is she dressed in white linen?

The Marriage of the Lamb pt. 2 – The Kinsmen Redeemer
Song: The Bride of Christ
From where did the white linen garments come?
Let’s look at the story of Ruth and Boaz (her Kinsman Redeemer).
Relatives Could Redeem (buy back) Property & Slaves
“If anyone becomes poor and sells some of his land, then his nearest relatives may redeem it.” Lev. 25:25 TLB
“Even if some of you Israelites become so far in debt that you must sell yourselves… you still have the right to be set free by a relative.” Lev. 25:47-48 CEV
Ruth was a poor stranger who worked in Boaz’s fields.
He loved her from the moment he first saw her.
Naomi (mother of Ruth’s deceased husband) advised her.
He is our near Kinsman. When he lays by His wheat harvest (to protect it), note the place where he lays.
Lay at his feet. Ask him to redeem you (pay your debt).
In those days, it was understood that it was the role of a servant to lay at their master’s feet and be ready for his commands.
She was to come very humbly with her request.
He was her “Kinsmen Redeemer,” meaning he could legally pay her debts and make her his bride.
She was to ask him to redeem her (pay her debt and marry her).
“I am your servant Ruth. . . . Spread the corner of your garment over me.”
Even today, when a Jew marries a woman, he often throws the skirt or end of his “talith” over her, to signify that he has taken her under his protection.
Jesus is Our Kinsman. “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us…” John 1:14 MEV
“But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, come of woman, come under law, that he might redeem those under law…” Gal. 4:4, 5 DAR
Now that He was human (a kinsman), He could legally be our Redeemer.
Jesus is Our Redeemer. The Price was His Death on the Cross
“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us.
As it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree.’ ” Gal. 3:13 EHV
“In Him we have redemption through His blood…” Eph. 1:7 ESV
Jesus is Our Kinsman Redeemer. “He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies.” Ps.103:3, 4 NLT
“…Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine! Isa 43:1 RSV
Jesus is the great redeemer of lost sinners and restorer of hopeless souls.
He paid our debt of sin with His very life’s blood and then made us His own.
We were strangers to Him, slaves to sin, and spiritually impoverished, but He beheld us and He loved us deeply.
We come humbly to Him at the foot of the cross and, like Ruth, we ask for His mercy and redemption.
Like Ruth, we pray, “Cover me Lord.”
He alone is our “Kinsmen Redeemer” who paid our sin debt
that He might make us his own.
Jesus wears a white garment that represents His righteous holiness. He alone is sinless and perfect!
“…the One Who has lived forever took His seat. His clothing was as white as snow and the hair of His head was like pure wool.” Dan. 7:9 NLV
Like Boaz, Christ covers us with His garment.
“… I wrapped my cloak around you to legally declare my marriage vow. I signed a covenant with you, and you became mine.” Ezk. 16:8 TLB
“Clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ.” Rom. 13:14
For all you who are baptized have put on Christ. Gal. 3:27 NMB

Consider the following questions:
Who was Boaz to Ruth? Who is Jesus to us?
How should we approach Jesus for help? Where does the bride get her garment?

Pt. 3 – The Bride Reflects the Groom
Song: Oh the Wedding of the Lamb
The Ceremony. From where does the bride come?
While Adam slept, through a wound in his side, his bride was created.
“He formed a woman out of the rib and brought her to him.” Gen. 2:22 GNT
When Jesus died, His side was also wounded and His bride was created through His death.
“But one of the soldiers pushed a spear into His side. Blood and water ran out.” Jn. 19:34 NLV
“He showed them his hands and side. And how wonderful was their joy as they saw their Lord!” Jn. 20:20 TLB
Adam Became One with His Bride
“This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife in such a way that the two become one person.” Gen 2:24 TLB
“We are parts of his body. That’s why a man will leave his father and mother and be united with his wife, and the two will be one.
This is a great mystery. (I’m talking about Christ’s relationship to the church.)” Eph. 5:30-32 GW
“Surely you know that your bodies are parts of Christ himself…” 1 Cor. 6:15 NCV
“But the one who joins with the Lord is one spirit with the Lord.” Cor. 6:17 NCV
The Bride Reflects the Groom (made in his likeness)
“This is it!” Adam exclaimed. “She is part of my own bone and flesh! Her name is ‘woman’ because she was taken out of a man. Gen 2:23 TLB
“They show the bright glory of the Lord, as the Lord’s Spirit makes us more and more like our glorious Lord.” 2 Cor. 3:18 CEV
“He will make these poor bodies of ours like his own glorious body.” Phil. 3:21 CEV
The Ceremony: Who gives this bride away?
“Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.” Gen. 2:22
Today, as the Lord gave the bride to Adam, fathers give the bride to the groom.
BUT, Since Jesus is God, He actually presents His bride to Himself.
“…Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her…having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.” Eph. 5:25, 27 RSV
“For this cause a man will leave his father and mother and will be joined to his wife. The two will become one flesh.” Eph. 5:31 WEB
Jesus left all for us: “I came from the Father into the world…” Jn. 16:28 CEV
He Asks Us to Leave All for Him
Jesus said, ‘Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers…
…or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time… and in the age to come, eternal life.’” Mat. 19:29, 30 ESV
Song: The Cause of Christ. Consider the following questions:
- From where did Adam’s & Jesus’ bride come?
- How are Adam’s & Jesus’ bride like there groom?
- In the case of Adam’s & Jesus’ wedding, who gives the bride away ?
- What must we do for our groom?
Best Wedding Ever! The Marriage of the Lamb Pt. 4 – Best Banquet Ever
The Meal
Jesus loves to share a meal with His friends
“I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until God’s kingdom comes.” Lk. 22:18 NCV
“When he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, ‘Take, eat. This is my body, which is broken for you. Do this in memory of me.’” 1 Cor. 11:24 WEB
We are all invited to the biggest, fanciest meal ever.
Jesus is the Host
“And Jesus, the Groom Himself, is also the Server”
“For who is greater, he that sitteth at table, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at table? And I am among you as he that serveth.” Lk. 22:27 GNV
“And if you want to be first, you must be the slave of the rest. The Son of Man did not come to be a slave master, but a slave who will give his life to rescue many people.” Mat. 20:27, 28 CEV
Serving has always been, is now, and will forever be – His very nature !!!
“Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God…”
(He had nothing to prove. He followed His heart.)
“…So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin…
Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.” John 13:3-5 NLT
“There will be great joy for those who are ready and waiting for his return.
He himself will seat them and put on a waiter’s uniform and serve them as they sit and eat!”
Luke 12:37 TLB
Feasting on Jesus
Over and above any food for the belly, Jesus Himself is, in a real sense, the soul-satisfying meal.
“When he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “Take, eat. This is my body, which is broken for you. Do this in memory of me.” 1 Cor. 11:24 WEB
Consider the following passage from A.W. Tozer, in his book “The Art of True Worship.”
“As long as the worshiper is engrossed with himself and his good fortune, he is a babe.
We begin to grow up when our worship passes from thanksgiving to admiration…
…How different and how wonderful are the emotions aroused by a true and Spirit-incited love for Christ.
Think about it, friend. A true bride is not just thankful she is getting married, but she loves the groom…
…Similarly, when you observe the Lord’s Supper, you should not only be thankful Jesus broke his body and shed his blood for you…
…you should also see in that action that “greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13) ….
…You should see Jesus declaring his love for you, and you should do likewise.
If participating in the Lord’s Supper helps you grow in your love for Jesus like a bride loving her groom,
then you are making yourself ready for that greater feast that yet awaits you.” A. W. Tozer
For a season on Earth we learn to love Jesus and His sacrifice for us through the Lord’s supper.
Then we will finally be able to worship Him in person and feast on His love at the great Marriage Supper of the Lamb !
We will be forever celebrating His broken body and shed blood.
Consider the following questions:
- What is the purpose of the Last Supper?
- What will happen at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb?
- Why does Jesus serve His servants?
- What is the real meal that satisfies the soul?

Best Wedding Ever! The Marriage of the Lamb Pt. 5 – Some Unworthy Guests
Song: Oh, The Wedding of the Lamb
Video: Jesus on Man Without Wedding Garment
The King sent invitations, but no one came.
Then he said, “Tell them about the great meal that is already fully prepared”—but they mocked the meal (as they mock Jesus today).
They returned to their lives, then attacked & killed the king’s messengers (as they do today).
So the king sent his messengers to the poor, the lame, even the criminals on the highways and byways to partake of his glorious feast.
“Notice among yourselves, dear brothers, that few of you who follow Christ have big names or power or wealth.” 1 Cor 1:26 TLB
But some unworthy guests came without proper wedding garments.
“But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment; and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless…
…Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, and cast him into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.” Mat.22:12 RSV
When seeking a wedding gown, beware of cheap knock-offs.
Likewise, beware of cheap knock-offs for true righteousness.
- Raised in Church
- Quoting Scriptures
- Good Works, etc.
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
Many will tell me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name, in your name cast out demons, and in your name do many mighty works?’
Then I will tell them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you who work iniquity.’”
Mat. 7:21-23 WEB
Remember “This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe…” Rom. 3:22
Song: Parable of Man Without Wedding Garment
Also, Many Have Soiled Their Garments But, “…some haven’t soiled their garments with the world’s filth; they shall walk with me in white, for they are worthy.
Rev. 3:5 TLB
Many Just Don’t Get Ready on Time
She must be properly dressed and carry a light powered by oil (or the Holy Spirit).
- She is to be properly dressed and carry a lamp powered by oil.
- Be ready! Be fully dressed and have your lights shining.
- Be like servants who are waiting for their master to come home.
- Those servants might have to wait until midnight or later for their master. But they will be glad they did when he comes in and finds them still waiting.” Luke 12: 35-40 ERV
Five Who Were Not Ready On Time
“At that time God’s kingdom will be like ten girls who went to wait for the bridegroom. They took their lamps with them.
Five of the girls were foolish, and five were wise. The foolish girls took their lamps with them, but they did not take extra oil for the lamps.
The wise girls took their lamps and more oil in jars.”Luke 25:1-4 ERV
You Can’t Use Someone Else’s Light
- “When the bridegroom was very late, the girls could not keep their eyes open, and they all fell asleep.
- At midnight someone announced, ‘The bridegroom is coming! Come and meet him!’
- Then all the girls woke up. They made their lamps ready.
- But the foolish girls said to the wise girls, ‘Give us some of your oil. The oil in our lamps is all gone.’” Mat. 25:1-13
She must be dressed, keep her garment clean, and keep her lamp burning.
She must wait and wait while staying ready and watching.
“So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at a time when you don’t expect him!”
Luke 12:40 ERV
We must prioritize our spiritual condition.
Are we right with God?
Are we filled with the Spirit?
When it comes to our spiritual needs, procrastination is a death sentence.
“So always be ready. You don’t know the day or the time when the Son of Man will come. Mat. 25:13 ERV
Consider the following questions:
- Explain cheap, knock-off righteousness?
- What can happen to our garments if we dabble in worldliness?
- Why were the five girls not ready?
What must we do till the Lord comes?
